I upgraded to Beta and have been unable to log on or post. I guess the kinks have been worked out and we're back in business. I am loving the Scooter trial and eagerly await seeing Darth Cheney on the stand and possibly Rove. Patrick Fitzgerald is superhuman and not many could keep up in a battle of wits. A wonderful game of cat and mouse.

Faux News has sunk to a new low. They're teaming up with OJ Simpson for a sweeps week 2 part interview discussing Simpson's upcoming book. It is being hailed as a "confession" describing the dispicable slaughter of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. That Faux News would give air time to a scumbag murderer is very telling. The next thing we'll see from them will be from their new Reality TV division where you can munch popcorn while watching live torture and executions.

This criminal today reported to a Maryland prison where he will earn 12 to 40 cents an hour for assigned jobs which will include food service. The election is over and what a relief? I'm still a bit unsettled about it. I just don't get why bush did not give rummy the boot before the election and why there was no stomping of the feet tantrum style from allen and others, demanding recounts. It seems to me like they rolled over on this. Like it was a gimmee. I know it makes no sense and it is probably the conspiracy theorist in me but I just can't help but think that they have something up their sleeve and it doesn't bode well with me. I will continue to be unsettled about this until the newbies are sworn in and in control.

Twice Baked Potatoes

I made a double batch yesterday so I'd have some to freeze. Makes a great change from plain ol' bakers.

4 large baking potatoes
1/2 pound bacon
4 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chopped fresh chives
1 teaspoon salt
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
4 oz american cheese slices, torn up
4 oz chipotle cheddar cheese slices, torn up
4 teaspoon dry bread crumbs
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Use a fork to pierce the potato skins.
Bake the potatoes unwrapped for about 1 hour, or until soft, in the preheated oven.
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
Over medium-low heat melt the butter in a large saucepan. Combine onion, garlic powder, pepper, chives and salt. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally until the onions are soft.
Slice open the baked potatoes and, keeping the skins intact, scoop the insides into a medium bowl. Transfer the onion mixture to the bowl. Mix in the sour cream, american and chipotle cheddar cheese and continue mixing until all ingredients are well blended.
Using a large spoon, fill the potato skins with the mixture. Top with bread crumbs, the shredded cheddar cheese and bacon.
Return the potatoes to the preheated oven and continue baking for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the filling is slightly brown.

Let me just say this regarding the mess Pastor Haggard has found himself in. It boils down to the fact that religion created people like him and Foley et al. Due to their holier than thou attitude they are forcing the majority of gay and lesbians to live a life of shame and secrecy. They go against the teachings of Jesus by casting aspersions and hatred toward the gay community. Jesus taught us to love one another and judge not lest we be judged. Haggard would have been able to be his true self and live his life if the so called Christian community was doing the right thing. Jesus hated no one and therefore they do not have the right to hate either.

bush is out there shooting off his big yap that chaney and rummy are safe in their jobs until he is out of office. Why would he say that a few days before the election? Many pols and Armed Service members have been calling for rummys resignation/replacement but bush is adament that rummy is doing a "heck of a job". Is rove letting him be so bold because they know that the cons will retain the House and Senate? I hope I'm way off base here. My mind seems to be working overtime lately.

Am I wrong to think that the Kerry comment from yesterday is the death knell of his political career? I did not get the joke, botched or not. There was laughter in the background after the comment so apparently there are people who got the joke. All the Dems had to do was keep it on the down low, but noooooooooo. Now chimp in chief and crew have their undies in a bunch and chimpy has to grab the moment and rub our noses in that nasty steaming pile. I think that comment can be compared to "the shot heard 'round the world" and that Kerry just blew any chance of running in '08. I understand his not wanting to apologize but he really should. This time it is warranted. I normally cringe when time after time the Dems apologize for every GD thing under the sun but I feel this time it is necessary. And let dummies like me in on the damn joke!

I can't take it anymore. One day the Dems look to take both houses, the next day not, the next the Cons will retain both. Reports from people saying that it's all rigged and diebold will once again deliver for the Cons, then the next thing you hear is that all is well, we can expect glitches but that alot has been done in the last 2 years? Over 100 of our troops were murdered this horrible bloody month and I am grieving. Rove and minions spouting the party line and lies, lies and more lies. they just disgust me. And the prospect of 100 sugar addicts appearing on my door step fills me with dread. The only saving grace is the time change. It messes me up when it's pitch black at 7 a.m. It positively ruined my sleep cycle and I have suffered mightily I tell you. I mustered my energy today when I learned it would be almost 70 degrees today. The garage needed a fall cleaning and it took me about 4 hours and I'm plum tuckered. But I digress. I can't take the suspense any longer. I just want to catch up on all the sleep I've lost recently. Wake me when it's over????

To quote my Senator Russ Feingold today, "We will look back on this day as a stain on our nation's history." Of course he is referring to the terror bill that was signed today. "It allows the government to seize individuals on American soil and detain them indefinitely with no opportunity to challenge their detention in court," Feingold said. "And the new law would permit an individual to be convicted on the basis of coerced testimony and even allow someone convicted under these rules to be put to death." bush claims this will save American lives. What a joke right? He could care less about Americans and whether we live or die, hunger and thirst. No one can convince me that he has a heart. He and chaney represent to me all that is pure evil.
Yes, I cried today for America. I mourn for the loss of our freedoms, our privacy, our brave Troops killed and maimed, for the lies, the spin, the greed, the deceit, public inertia, the perversion, the torture, the hypocracy. Will they manage to retain both houses of congress with diebolds help and what horrors will we face in the near future? If I can borrow another quote today, "I can't think about that right now. Paul Lynde Stew

I made my favorite stew recipe today. The hubby has been bugging me for a potful so we enjoyed a big bowl of Paul Lynde Stew over a heapin' helpin' of homemade mashed potatoes. So simple yet so delicious. I have been making this since 1975. Paul was on the Merv Griffin show and made the stew. You had to mail in a request for the recipe and I've been making it ever since.

3# beef stew meat cut into bite size pieces
1 can carrots
1 jar small onions
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can baby peas
1 can green beans
1/2 can beef consomme
4 Tbsp Tapioca (Minute brand)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 c bread crumbs
1 bay leaf
1/2 c white wine
1 1/2 Tbsp salt
1/2 Tbsp pepper
Drain all veggies except tomatoes. Layer ingredients in order given. Cover and bake @ 250 degrees for 6-7 hours. Serve over mashed potatoes.

Funny now that the Repiglicans are on the verge of losing the House and/or Senate come November he mentions bin Laden 11 times in a recent speech. Funny that how a few months ago bushco decides to quit "wasting money and resources" looking for bin Laden. gwb uses bin Laden when he needs us to be afraid, otherwise he just can't be bothered about him. "You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you." This was gwb's response to a reporter at a press conference a few years ago when asked about why bin Laden had not been captured. This statement coming from the man (?) who whipped us into a fear frenzy about bin Laden and then all of a sudden he just doesn't think that much about him!!! He says this about the man he claims is responsible for the murder of 3000 American citizen on 911!!!!!!!!! So bin Laden knows we have stopped looking for him and he is free to plot and plan as he sees fit and we are bogged down in a horrible occupation in Iraq at a cost of over 2600 troops, 20,000 injuries and 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilian deaths. Babies are being born into debt!!!!!! That is just outrageous and truly pitiful. Please vote on November 7th and give the Democrats/Progressives a chance to undo the horrible damage done by those in charge of our country.

My Hero

I have long been a fan and admirer of Max Cleland. He was on Bill Mahers show two weeks ago and he is just a joy to listen to. I love his laugh too. He served our country in Viet Nam and lost 3 limbs in the process, but he did not let that stop him from coming home and serving his country again running the Veterans Administration, Secretary of State in Georgia and in the Senate. As most people know, Max lost his re-election bid to what we call "swiftboating". A horrible, dirty rotten, underhanded and mean spirited attack on a persons character and military service record. These scumbags did the same thing to John Kerry. What is so upsetting is that the sheeple in this country listen to this crap.

Max did not let that get him down. He has just recently started a group called The Patriot Project. Their goal is to come to the aid and defense of any man or woman regardless of party affiliation when they are attacked or defamed and their patriotism is questioned simply because they exercise their constitutional rights of free speech and the right to dissent.

With elections coming in November we will see more of the Repuglicans swiftboating candidates and it is nice to know that Max wants to see to it that they don't get away with it.

Potato Salad

I just got done making a big bowl this morning and thought I would share my recipe. I have been making this for 30 years now.

Combine the following in a bowl and refrigerate for up to 2 days:
1 cup mayo
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp prepared mustard
1/2 tsp celery seeds

In a large bowl combine:
4 cups diced cooked potatoes
4 hard boiled eggs
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped onion

Pour mayo sauce over potato mixture and mix gently but well. I always make it a day ahead. It just seems that most food is better the next day!!

Hibiscus flowers are my favorite. I am going to try to keep my 3 plants alive indoors over the winter. They give me such pleasure. I love going outside in the morning to see how many blooms I have. The most I've gotten is 5 on one plant. They only last a day so I cherish them all the more!

The beginning of our downfall

It is a very interesting read and it made me think that we might not be where we are today if had not been for moms having to work.

Back in the old days, dad made enough money to support his family. Mom stayed home and took care of the family. There were 3 meals a day (mom packed your lunch) and an after school snack. The house was usually immaculate. Mom was home for you after school and you had a snack while doing your homework and Mom would help you if you needed it. During the late 60's things changed. All of a sudden it seemed that stores were flooded with merchandise that was very appealing and malls, stores and restaurants were being built everywhere. People just had to have those console color tv's, the big cabinet stereos and awesome new appliances and kitchen gadgets. Before we knew it Mom was getting a part time job in the afternoon and was no longer home after school.

In the 70's the Moms had to work full time and since then kids have been getting off to school by themselves and the word "latchkey" was born. Mom has commuted 1-2 hours and worked 8 and then has to pick up and drop off kids at their extracurricular activites and is too tired and stressed to come home and cook. It's so much easier to pick something up on the way home. And so we started our kids on bad eating habits and they are now hooked on fast food and are constantly pumped full of chemicals and fat from that food. And they are also pumped full of sugar from the lovable juice boxes, pop and koolaid and give a sour face when it is suggested they have a glass of water instead.

I just can't help but feel that we would be in a better place today and our kids better taken care of and not being drugged every day if we could have Mom home to take care of the family. How sad as Arianna states in her post that kids were lined up for 100 feet to get their ritalin and anti depressants. I had what they call ADD in grade school back in the early 60's. I didn't need to be drugged, they just got me a tutor when I needed extra help. Today we medicate because Big Pharma is allowed to advertise drugs for every made up disease and ailment and we obey when they tell us to "ask your doctor". As I am sure every generation says "Aaah, I long for the good old days".

From Huffpo today:"Presidential adviser Karl Rove criticized a federal judge's order for an immediate end to the government's warrantless surveillance program, saying Wednesday such a program might have prevented the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks."
This ignorant statement and all the crap he spews shows the disdain he has for Americans! When I think that Rove propoganda could have been avoided if he'd been indicted. Oh how I lament!!
A great majority of Americans do not object to eavesdropping. We also know that the government has the right to do this and has for a long long time. Rove makes it sound like this is new technology that has just been discovered after 911! They can surveil all they want but it must be done within the law. FISA courts have denied warrants only a handful of times so this is a non issue. They CAN eavesdrop using the F.I.S.A. court. They can listen to anything they want. All they have to do is get a retroactive warrant. They have 72 hours to get a warrant after they have eavesdropped on us. They're just pissed that they can't eavesdrop in secret with no accountablity.
Bushes ignorant statement that we're fighting them there so we don't to fight them here is assinine. With the money we are spending on this occupation we could have followed all the recommendations from the 911 Commission and we would be safer as a result. The way it stands now we have open unprotected borders, ports owned and run by foreign entities,a demoralized CIA and an immigration department that is as much of a failure as DHS and FEMA. Most of all, had this regrettable debacle been avoided we would not have put our troops in harms way and Iraqi civilians would not have had to suffer the horrors we have heaped upon them.
And if Mr. Arrogance in Chief would have paid attention to his daily briefing of August 2001, if he was so intent on being our protector and heeded the warning that Bin Laden was planning on attacking the US, it is then possible to say that 911 could have been prevented.
What the Dems need to hammer home to America is that 911 HAPPENED ON HIS WATCH!!!! And now he confesses for all the world to hear that there were no WMD's in Iraq. He's proved that he and his administration are a pack of lying thieves.
I do not believe we will see another 911 attack until '08 when the Dems have won. The will do it on purpose and then that's all we'll hear is the hue and cry that "IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON OUR WATCH", completely forgetting 911 happened on theirs.
Shrubs sycophants know that he is a loser but they can't let the Emporer know he is naked.

george bush and his administration are a skid mark on the underwear of America. We can wash and scrub but the dirt never seems to go completely away. By this I mean the horrors they have wrought with their blatant lies, war profiteering and corruption will forever be a shameful part of our history.

Those who are angry about all that is wrong in America must be the bleach used to try to remove the stain, to rid ourselves of the blight that is dividing our nation and causing death to our military and innocent civilians in Iraq.

The Founding Fathers gave us clear instructions to remedy a nation injured by a rogue president and corrupt government officials. We should listen to them and do what must be done to set this country on the path to healing not only our wounds, but the wounds we have inflicted on others.
